2014 Festivals & Events in New Zealand

It’s never too early to start planning your next New Zealand holiday, and if you get a jump on it you can select travel dates that will allow you to experience one of the many top class events that take place here every year. If you’re thinking about taking a holiday in NZ, here’s a selection New Zealand events taking place in early 2014 that could be worth making the effort to see.

Hiring a New Zealand rental car will give you the freedom to explore the surrounding regions at your leisure, and ensure you arrive right on time.

Fringe Festival, Wellington

This community based open-access festival runs in the capital from 7 February to 2 March 2014 offering a range of events from the fun and arty to the bizarre, covering comedy, dance, visual arts, theatre, circus and more. If you feel a burst of creativity you can even get involved! Iconic Kiwi acts such as Flight of the Conchords, Rhys Dardy and Dai Henwood have all previously used the Fringe festival as a practice ground so you could find yourself among some great emerging artists in 2014.

Splore, Auckland

Held at Tapapakanga Regional Park south east of Auckland, Splore is a massive event encompassing a huge range of contemporary music styles. In its 10 years Splore has created a reputation for bringing together a diverse selection of acts to enjoy in one of the best festival settings in the world. Every year has a different theme that guests are encouraged to dress up to, and audience interaction with performers is encouraged. This is a unique festival experience that surpasses just a musical concert. Takes place from 14-16 February 2014.

Tremains Art Deco Weekend, Napier

Napier is famous for its perfectly preserved town centre designed almost entirely in the Art Deco style, the result of rebuilding after an earthquake that occurred when the design movement was at its height. This weekend-long event celebrates the unique historic atmosphere of the town with classic cars, steam train rides and a Great Gatsby picnic. Tremains Art Deco Weekend takes place from 20-23 February 2014.

New World Tour De Wakatipu, Otago

See the stunning Wakatipu basin scenery from the back of a mountain bike as you race through a specially created course. Starting at the Milbrook Resort in Arrowtown and finishing at Kawarau River, the course is 36km for recreational riders and 45km for expert or sport riders. At the finish line there’ll be food, wine and music to celebrate your completed ride. The Tour De Wakatipu takes place on 19 April 2014.
