Hiring a Rental Car in Dunedin

Having just toured the Catlins and checking out Dunedin I got to have a good look around the NZ Rent a Car site in Dunedin. The rental car site is situated at 510 Kaikorai Valley Road. Scott McKeay operates the car rental branch NZ Rent a Car Dunedin with assistance from Glenda, who is also a car salesperson.

Glenda and Scott picked us up at the Airport which they are happy to do as there are usually other vehicles to return to the yard or drop off for other travellers. When you fly out again you can leave your rental car in a secure park for them to collect later, so it’s very easy and convenient.

The NZ Rent A Car Dunedin Car Rental Depot is owned by Neil Videler. Neil originally was operating CarBase Autovillage across the road and has been steadily increasing his site at Kaikorai Valley. He expanded into NZ Rent a Car and now also has the dealership for Kia Cars in Dunedin.

But that’s not all. He has a great team in Dunedin with a Paint and Panel Workshop headed up by Danny Pollock, and a full mechanical workshop, headed up by Brent Young, so you can be sure of hiring a highly maintained and fully serviced vehicle.

While in Dunedin there are some great places to visit. The beautiful old Railway Station, Otago Settler’s Museum, Cadbury World chocolate factory for all dedicated chocaholics, the Speight’s Brewery or an event at the only covered stadium in New Zealand. St Clair beach is stunning and Larnach Castle and garden is truly surprising. It is the only castle in New Zealand, and showcases the wealth that was in Otago in the early days. If you want to have a rest take the Taieri Gorge Train Ride. Some great scenery which takes you way out the back of Otago. There is some great shopping to be had in Dunedin and a couple of cafes we visited “The Good Oil” and “Sugar” I can highly recommend.
