New Zealand Auto Rental

Our conditions and terms of service for New Zealand auto rental are detailed below. Please note: the terms and conditions stated on the Vehicle Rental Agreement signed prior to your auto rental being supplied will apply.

Rates

Rates are in New Zealand Dollars. 12.5% Goods and Services Tax (GST) is included in all rates. Should the GST tax rate increase above 12.5%, then NZ Rent A Car reserves the right to charge the additional tax at the time of hire.

Mileage Allowance

For one and two day hires there is a mileage allowance of 100kms per day, above that a kilometre charge may apply. For hires 3 days or more there is an unlimited kilometre allowance.

Hours

We operate everyday except Christmas Day. On public holidays we are only open for confirmed bookings.

Drivers Licence

Minimum age is 21 years and all drivers must have a non-provisional licence written in English or if in another language be accompanied by a certified English translation. There is no additional charge for additional drivers, however all drivers wishing to drive the vehicle must present their licence at the time of hire.

Rental Duration

Rental days are calculated on a 24 hour basis from time of pickup.

Refund policy

When a booking is cancelled more than 7 days in advance of the booking a full refund will be given less the deposit charged.

Where a booking is cancelled less than 7 days in advance a 50% refund will be given.

Where a booking is cancelled less than 1 day in advance a charge of a minimum 3 days hire or 50% of the booking, whichever is the greater, will be made.

No Smoking

All of our vehicles are non smoking. If hirers do not respect this rule, a cleaning charge of $100 will be charged at the end of the hire.

Roadside assistance

All vehicles are covered by a Roadside Assistance programme.

One way car rentals / hires

One way car rentals / hires are available, however a minimum hire period and one way fee may apply. Our fastquote system will calculate these charges.

Payments

Payment can be made by major credit card. Payment is required at the commencements of the hire. Payment by any other method will be only by prior arrangement.

Credit card surcharge

We do not charge a surcharge with any payment made by credit card.

Email Confirmation

If you are a HOTMAIL, GMAIL or YAHOO! email user and cannot see your booking confirmation email message in your inbox, please also check your spam/trash folder for your booking confirmation message.

No Show

If you are a "no show" and have not notified us at least 24 hours prior to pickup of your intention to cancel, we reserve the right to charge the full cost of the hire.

Classification / Substitution

We do not guarantee a specific make or model of car - only the general classification. We will attempt to supply the class of vehicle quoted at the time of reservation but reserve the right to substitute an upgraded class - at no additional cost to the hirer.

Pick up and delivery

We offer a courtesy pick up service from any location within 5 kms of our depot. This service is only available during normal business hours and outside of these times only by prior arrangement when an additional fee may be charged.

Standard Insurance Cover

Standard insurance has a maximum potential liability of $NZ 1500. Full exclusions to this liability are contained in the auto rental agreement but include:

  1. Where the driver is driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  2. Where the vehicle is in an unsafe condition that arose during the course of the hire
  3. The vehicle is driven by an unauthorised or unlicensed driver
  4. The vehicle is wilfully or recklessly damaged by the hirer or driver
  5. Where the driver is driving on the wrong side of the road

Insurance Excess Reduction (IER)

At the time of hire, hirers will be offered insurance excess reduction (IER). This reduces the maximum potential liability from $NZ 1500 to a maximum of $NZ 200. The additional cost for IER is quoted on the website.

Vehicle Rental Agreement
