SkyCity Auckland

It would be difficult to visit Auckland these days and not spot the enormous SkyCity Sky Tower as it rises majestically above the Auckland city skyline. This iconic structure makes up just one piece of the world-class Auckland central entertainment destination known as SkyCity Auckland.

The SkyCity complex offers an ever-changing lineup of live entertainment, events, and displays along with a great range of restaurants, cafes, and bars, the SkyCity Theatre, two highly rated Hotels, and even a Casino.

Auckland Sky Tower

Standing 328 meters tall, the Auckland Sky Tower forms one of Auckland’s instantly recognizable man-made landmarks. First opened in August of 1997 after taking nearly three years to construct, the tower has since seen hundreds and thousands of visitors each year make the ascent to its impressive upper levels.

Sky Tower Dining Options

There are three restaurants within the upper levels of the Sky Tower, all with something a little bit different to offer.

Sky Café

Level 51 holds the Main Observation Deck, complete with reinforced glass flooring in places to allow unobstructed views of the city streets below. The Sky Café is situated one level below and offers the chance to enjoy the stunning views while sipping a glass of wine or some tasty Kapiti ice cream.

Orbit 360° Dining

Rotating 360 degrees every hour, the Orbit Restaurant on level 52 provides a unique dining experience along with complimentary access to the Sky Tower. Enjoy a kiwi-inspired à la carte menu featuring some of New Zealand’s best local and seasonal produce while experiencing the revolving views of Auckland City, the Waitemata Harbour, and beyond.

The Sugar Club

Level 53 is home to Peter Gordon and his renowned restaurant – The Sugar Club. The Sugar Club’s fusion-style cuisine inspires and delights with a focus firmly on locally sourced produce and fine dining. The Sugar Club is open for lunch from 12 to 2.30 pm and dinner from 5.30 to 9.30 pm.

Sky Tower Adventure Activities

As well as superb dining options the Sky Tower also provides the opportunity for some inner-city adrenaline-pumping action and adventure.

Sky Jump

Feeling adventurous and want to firmly cement your Sky Tower experience as one to remember? Why not have a go at the SkyJump on level 53. The Skyjump is New Zealand’s only ‘base jump by wire’ experience and it's set right in the heart of central Auckland. Plummet 192 meters towards the ground at speeds of around 85 km per hour – while attached to specially designed wires of course!

Sky Walk

Don’t feel like throwing yourself off the Sky Tower? Then give the Skywalk ago. Enjoy a guided walk with a difference around the outer ledge of level 53 of the Sky Tower. A narrow metal walkway with no handrail is the only thing between you and the wide-open spaces, full-body harnesses, and overhead safety lines are provided.

Sky Deck

Level 60 is the highest level of the Sky Tower available to the public and it is home to the Sky Deck observation area. Experience unobstructed 360-degree views from this 220-meter high vantage point. See if you can spot Waiheke Island, Devonport, and Rangitoto Island in the distance along with the Tasman Sea to the west and the Hauraki Gulf to the East.
