New Zealand Rent A Car is a co-operative of well-established independent companies providing low cost car rentals in all main centres in NZ. Our company is unique, offering you the convenience of nationwide coverage, combined with the personal service of independent owner-operators.
New Zealand Rent A Car began in 1991 and has grown from 10 offices into a network of 10 branches throughout New Zealand, from Auckland in the North Island to the south in Dunedin. We are the largest multi-depot off-airport car rental company in NZ.
Our focus is on providing a friendly, personal service and safe, clean, economical car rentals at affordable prices.
We have over 1,000 rental vehicles from small hatchback cars to 12 seater minibuses, and at some branches, specialist vehicles including sports cars, furniture trucks, and a range of 4 wheel drive vehicles. Most branches have budget backpacker vehicles available for longer term hires at excellent rates.
We offer a courtesy pick-up service at all main airports, railway stations, bus depots and accommodation within 5kms of our car rental depots.
We are also members of the Rental Vehicle Association, which imposes a strict code of conduct for all members.

We had a Corolla Hybrid and around Christchurch it was perfect, so good on fuel, would definitely hire another hybrid in the future. - Such a great company. I got a blown tire within my first hour of renting the car and the company could not have been nicer. They explained that the Jack was under the passenger seat and I was able to put the spare on drive it back to the shop where they immediately gave me another rental. - This is my go-to rental place. They've got some of the best prices in Auckland's North Shore for cars. We also just used one of their moving trucks and they definitely had the best prices for trucks. Plus you get 100km free with your truck rental. The staff is also really friendly which makes this place even better. When we pulled the truck back onto their lot (in the downpour rain) they met us at the truck with an umbrella to try to keep us dry.
